History of the Bartlett Public Library District

 

1968

Several community organizations form the Bartlett Volunteer Library Association.

1968

A library is set up in the Bartlett Municipal Building.

1972

Bartlett residents vote in favor of establishing a library district.

1973

The Bartlett Public Library District opens.

1974

Ruth Stuenkel is selected as library director.

1975

Post Office building is purchased to expand library space to 3100 square feet.

1978

Bob Harris is selected as library director.

1980

Diane Lueder is selected as library director.

1981

Land is purchased at the current site of 800 S. Bartlett Rd.

1983

New 7100-square-foot building opens in August.

1983

Friends of the Bartlett Library is formed by a group of residents.

1985

Dolores Payette is selected as library director.

1988

Construction is completed on the 4500-square-foot addition, which opens in February.

1994-1995

A two-story 22,000-square-foot addition is added.

1998

Yvonne Beechler is selected as library director.

2000

The Bartlett Public Library District Foundation is established.

2003

Todd Morning is selected as library director.

2008-2009

The library undergoes a complete remodel.

2009

The online catalog is updated and the library introduces downloadable materials.

2011

The Circulation Department is redesigned and expanded.

2012

Karolyn Nance is selected as library director.

2015

A renovation creates additional study rooms, conference rooms, and an art room.
