BARTLETT PUBLIC LIBRARY DISTRICT
INTERNET POLICY
The Bartlett Public Library District provides access to the Internet in keeping with its role of providing equal access to information and resources for the community.
- The Library has no control over the Internet and its resources and assumes no responsibility for the quality, accuracy, or currency of any information found on the Internet. Patrons should recognize that the Internet may contain material of a controversial nature.
- Access to the Internet at the Bartlett Public Library District is filtered for graphic pornography and ads. Patrons should be aware no filter is completely foolproof. Internet sites with objectionable content may not be blocked; sites with unobjectionable content may be mistakenly blocked. As is the case with other materials in the library collection, a child’s access to information on the Internet is the responsibility of the parent or legal guardian.
- At times, patrons may be unable to access sites on the Internet for a variety of reasons beyond the control of the library.
- The Library does not monitor an individual’s use of Internet sites. Since all Internet workstations are in view of other library patrons or staff, computer users should have no expectation of privacy. Users are not permitted to display material inappropriate for the public environment.
- Security on the Internet cannot be guaranteed. All transactions, files, and communication are vulnerable to unauthorized access.
- It is not acceptable to use the Bartlett Public Library’s District access to electronic information services, and/or networks for any purposes that violate federal, state, or local laws; to transmit threatening, obscene, or harassing materials; or to interfere with or disrupt network users, services, or equipment. Disruptions include, but are not limited to: libeling or slandering other users; damage to library equipment, software, or data belonging to the library or other users; disruption or unauthorized monitoring of electronic communications; or unauthorized copying of copyright protected materials.
- Individuals are responsible for any purchases made using the Internet computers.
- Use of the Bartlett Public Library District Internet Connection for commercial gain is prohibited.
- Only computer equipment and software owned and installed by the Bartlett Public Library may be used on its computers. Adding to, deleting, or modifying the installed hardware and software is not permitted. Destruction or unauthorized alterations of the library’s computer equipment, software, or network security procedures is prohibited.
Unacceptable or inappropriate use of the Internet or any library owned hardware or software will result in suspension or revocation of Bartlett Library computer privileges and may result in the loss of other library privileges. The user and/or parent or guardian will be held financially responsible for any damage to library equipment, software, or data. Illegal acts involving the library’s Internet Connection may be subject to prosecution by local, state, or federal authorities.
The Bartlett Public Library District disclaims any liability or responsibility arising directly or indirectly from access to or use of the Bartlett Public Library’s District Internet Connection, or from information obtained through same, or any consequences thereof.
