The following policy is designed to ensure that all patrons receive the highest possible level of service when they have a reference query.
Reference services staff will include librarians and associates able to assist, advise, and instruct users in accessing information.
Users will include anyone requesting information regardless of their age, residency, ethnicity, gender, or views.
The goal of the Bartlett Public Library District reference staff is to provide consistent, reliable, courteous, and non-judgmental assistance.
In order to do this and within budgetary constraints, we will continuously update the Library’s collections in every area and format.
Reference queries will be answered in-person, by phone, by e-mail, or through social media. Preference is given to in-person queries.
Staff facilitates access to Bartlett Public Library District’s collection of print and digital resources and when necessary, will use other means such as interlibrary loan to provide reference materials.
Participation in continuing education is encouraged through training webinars, journals, networking with other librarians and organizations, and off-site meetings or conferences.
Staff will be available to answer queries whenever the Library is open.
The Bartlett Public Library District subscribes to the American Library Association’s Library Bill of Rights, and the Freedom to Read and Freedom to View Statements.
