BARTLETT PUBLIC LIBRARY DISTRICT
REQUESTS FOR DONATIONS FROM THE LIBRARY FROM ORGANIZATIONS

The operating revenue of the Bartlett Public Library District comes primarily from taxes levied upon real property located within the district boundaries. The Bartlett Public Library District is, by statute, authorized to levy such taxes primarily "for the establishment, maintenance, and support of a public library or libraries within the district or for contracting for library service" and "for the purchase of sites and buildings, the construction and equipment of buildings, the rental of buildings required for library purposes, and maintenance, repairs, and alterations of library buildings and equipment." (75 ILCS 16/35-5(a) and (b)).

The Bartlett Public Library shall not, therefore, contribute monetary funds to non-profit organizations unless the district management personnel determine that such contributions both: (1) Have the likelihood of substantially advancing the current goals of the Bartlett Public Library District in a costeffective manner (e.g., publicity) and, (2) can be funded wholly within the means of the "public relations" budget line set forth annually by the Bartlett Public Library District Board of Trustees.
