TRUSTEE VACANCY POLICY

PURPOSE

The purpose of this policy is to guide the Library Trustees in filling vacancies on the Library Board. This policy is supplementary to the provisions of the statues of the State of Illinois as they relate to the vacancy in the office of a library trustee.

DEFINITIONS

Board: The Bartlett Public Library District Board of Library Trustees.
Library: The Bartlett Public Library District.
Minimum Qualifications: Minimum qualifications to serve on the Library Board are:
  1. Residency in the Library District;
  2. Status as a registered voter.
Trustees: Trustees are the elected or appointed members of the Board.
Vacancy: A vacancy occurs when declared by the Board.

VACANCIES

When the Board declares a vacancy, the Board may publish notice of the vacancy (form of notice attached) and provide an application for persons interested in serving as Library Trustee (application form attached). The Board, in its sole discretion, may review applications and conduct interviews.

However, the Board may forego the application process if it deems necessary in the interest of the library district. The Board, in its sole discretion, shall determine the best interests of the library district.
