Mission & Vision

The Bartlett Public Library District serves more than 35,000 residents across Cook and DuPage counties. The library is a vibrant community hub where people of all ages can learn, connect, play, and discover through a wide range of materials, resources, services, and programs.

Our Vision of becoming an essential place in community life drives our mission to be the Best Place to Learn & Discover.

Timeline

Year 
1968Several community organizations form the Bartlett Volunteer Library Association.
1968A library is set up in the Bartlett Municipal Building.
1972Bartlett residents vote in favor of establishing a library district.
1973The Bartlett Public Library District opens.
1974Ruth Stuenkel is selected as library director.
1975Post Office building is purchased to expand library space to 3100 square feet.
1978Bob Harris is selected as library director.
1980Diane Lueder is selected as library director.
1981Land is purchased at the current site of 800 S. Bartlett Rd.
1983New 7100-square-foot building opens in August.
1983Friends of the Bartlett Library is formed by a group of residents.
1985Dolores Payette is selected as library director.
1988Construction is completed on the 4500-square-foot addition, which opens in February.
1994-1995A two-story 22,000-square-foot addition is added.
1998Yvonne Beechler is selected as library director.
2000The Bartlett Public Library District Foundation is established.
2003Todd Morning is selected as library director.
2008-2009The library undergoes a complete remodel.
2009The online catalog is updated and the library introduces downloadable materials.
2011The Circulation Department is redesigned and expanded.
2012Karolyn Wessel is selected as library director.
2015A renovation creates additional study rooms, conference rooms, and an art room.
