Borrowing Materials

Video games, DVDs, and our Library of Things collection can be checked out for one week. Other items may generably be checked out for three weeks. Times for specialty items may vary.

Most items have no late fees. However, there are late fees of $1.00 per day for video games and Library of Things items. Inter-Library loan items have a late fee of $0.10 per day.

Pay Overdue Fees

Library borrowing privileges are suspended when an item on the account is 10 days overdue.

A total of 99 items can be checked out at one time, however some collections have additional restrictions.

  • Only 3 video games may be checked out at one time.
  • Only 1 item from the Library of Things collection may be checked out at one time.

Eligible items automatically renew up to two times if there isn’t a hold on them. Renewal times run from one to three weeks based on the type of item checked out.

Place holds over the phone, in person, or through our online catalog by hitting the “Place Request” button and following the prompts. Once an item is ready, you will be notified.

The following items are not eligible for renewal:

  • Library of Things collection
  • Inter-Library loans

All holds are placed on a shelf past the circulation desk near the public computers. Held items are marked with paper tags and organized by the last name of the borrowing patron.

Please note that held items still must be checked out at the circulation desk or one of our self-checkout stations after being picked up.

Items will be held for patrons for three days. Failure to pick-up the item within three days will result in forfeiture of the hold. If you know that you will be unable to pick-up a held item once it has come in, please contact circulation at 630.837.2958

The Library will never issue a due date for a patron when the building is closed. In the event of an unexpected closing, no fines are issued for the duration of the closing, and you are free to return your item when we are next open.

Items other than our Library of Things collection may also be returned to the drive-up book drop at the back of the building when the Library is closed.

  1. Can I get a longer checkout period?
If there are no hold requests for the items, your eligible items will automatically renew. Please refer to question 9 for more information on renewals.

  2. How can I keep my holds active?
Suspend your holds by going to My Account and then Requests. Check the holds that you would like to suspend and press the “Suspend/Reactive Selected” button at the bottom of the page. Then enter the date you would like to reactivate your holds in the textbox titled “New Activate Date” and click “Submit”.

We will not fulfill any holds before the date that is entered, but you will retain your place in the holds queue. If you need to reactivate your holds early, follow the same process as above, but enter today’s date in the “New Activate Date” textbox.
